SPEAKEASY CINEMA PRESENTS....

Submitted by Lauren Kritzer on April 7, 2008 - 23:40.

SPEAKEASY CINEMA provides an opportunity for the film community to watch movies and talk about them in the mood of the Algonquin  Roundtable. Once a month, director Matt Kohn introduces a different director, producer, actor, or editor who presents a film  that no one will know until the lights dim. After the  screening, Kohn will induce the filmmaker to engage everyone in the  room in ways that will bring about a greater appreciation of cinema,  and break the fourth wall. At this intimate event industry talk is  verboten, but your libations are welcome (read: BYOB or wine and we  will have the corkscrew).  SPEAKEASY CINEMA with guests  Bill Griffith (cartoonist) and John S. Hall (poet) Tuesday, Aprll 22nd - doors open @ 7 PM, event starts promptly  at 7:30 279 Church Street, New York, NY 10013 - 3 blocks below Canal St-  across from the Tribeca Grand, $5 Based out of San Francisco in the late 1960s, and Bill Griffith co-founded the comics anthology Arcade, and with Art Spiegelman,  The Comics Revue. Griffith was a prominent cartoonist in the underground comics movement of the time, his work appearing in East Village Other,  Screw magazine,  the Berkley Bard and Real Pulp.   If you're new to Speakeasy Cinema, here are "the rules" Speakeasy Cinema has a few rules: 1) our guests bring a film and no one one knows what it is until the lights dim 2) the film can't be a film the guests have worked on, only a film they love or hate, think is important, inspiring and want to talk about 3) after the film, the audiences and the filmmakers share their experiences watching the film. We talk about ART. 4) industry talk is verboten! 5) we can drink in this theater, so bring a bottle - we provide the corkscrew 6) we do it the third Monday of every month - except this November - it'll be the second Monday7) we don't don't show documentaries, whatever documentaries are
